Objectives

LA SOLITAIRE DU FIGARO

Team Viloria’s entry into solo ocean racing will be the  La Solitaire du Figaro, which is an annual event held along the coast of France. It is a one-design race–meaning that participants all have the same kind of boat, which is the Figaro Beneteau II–a sturdy 33 foot sailboat specially designed for the 2000++ nautical mile event. The race’s first leg will start from Bordeaux, and then Sanxenxo, La Cornouaille, Torbay, ending in Dieppe.

The goal is to be able to acquire a team boat–either through sponsorship support, crowd funding, out of pocket, or through charter, by the 2nd quarter of 2016 in order to start training for solo ocean racing. During this time, as part of the ongoing and constant training, it is intended that the requisite RYA certifications like the Yacht Captain’s certificate, Radio Operator’s certificate, and Safety at Sea certificate will be secured in the UK.

By 2017 we are hoping that we will be well prepared for our first time participation in the Solitaire.

ROUTE DU RHUM

The next stage/level for Team Viloria in solo ocean racing will be the Route du Rhum using a bigger boat, which is the Class 40. Like the Figaro Beneteau II, the Class 40 is a one-design boat specially designed and purpose built for single handed or short handed ocean racing.

The target year for participation will be 2019. It is also planned that a circumnavigation of the world will be attempted.

More information on the Route du Rhum can be found here.

LEGACY PROGRAM

Team Viloria doesn’t just intend to race in offshore events or circumnavigate the globe. Part of the team’s objectives is to develop sailing as an accessible sport to the general Philippine public through education centered training programs and sailing advocacy.

Part of Team Viloria’s sailing program will be to reach-out to the youth demographic of ALL social classes, pioneer the very first year-long INTER-SCHOOL competition by helping schools and universities develop their own sailing team/varsities.

Another objective will be to develop a boat building program in order for teams to have their own boats and create a livelihood program which focuses on mentorship, aptitude development and entrepreneurial training as a social outreach project.

It is intended that “graduates” of the Team Viloria Legacy Program will be able to run their own sailing programs, start-up sailing clubs, and start-up boat building businesses as capable and competent sailor-entrepreneurs.
